When you selected border or soft border in step 2, when F6 (MATTE) is
on (a color matte is selected as the edge fill), you can adjust the
parameters for matte 1 regardless of whether the color mix function is on
or off.
When applying a border:

To select the signal on the M/E-1 utility bus, press the M/E-1 UTIL

F6 (MATTE): dedicated color matte for edge fill.
