42 Closed Captioning
When you watch a program that is being broadcast with closed
captioning, you can access on-screen boxes containing the pro-
gramOs dialogue (for example, what a character is saying), dialogue
in a foreign language, or information (such as a channel guide,
schedule, or announcements). Follow the steps below to select
closed captioning.
Not all TV programs and commercials are broadcast with closed
captioning. Similarly, all types of closed captioning (second lan-
guage, full-screen text, etc.) are not always broadcast. If closedPOWERSLEEP
captioning is not broadcast, you cannot receive it. This does notALT.CH

Press the PLAY/s button or the STOP/t button to select
CAPTION.

Press the REW(ind)/� button or the F.FWD/+ button to
select your desired mode.
The selected closed captioning mode will appear to the right of
CAPTION on-screen.
lCAPTION1 displays standard closed captioning (what a charac-
ter is saying).
lCAPTION2 displays foreign language closed captioning (foreign
language words showing what a character is saying).
lTEXT1 and TEXT2 display half screen text (such as a channel
guide, schedule, or announcement).
lOFF turns closed captioning off. Captions will not appear on-
screen.
