What is a Mini Disc ?

Types of MiniDiscs
Two types of MDs are available: MiniDiscs for Playback only and MiniDiscs for
Recording and Playback.
Playback Only MiniDisc Recordable MiniDisc
This disc cannot record.

Sound Compression Technology
ATRAC (Adaptive TRansform Acoustic Coding)
The MD is about half the size of a CD but has about the same recording time. This is due to
sound compression technology (ATRAC) based on the science of acoustic psychology. With this
technology, sound data can be reduced by about 1/5, without losing acoustic sound quality. |
